Make the decision once.

Commit began with a problem I was trying to solve for myself.

My screen time had reached nine or ten hours a day. I would reach for my phone around family and scroll without any real reason. Turning off notifications and deleting apps helped, but the habit I struggled with most was the first decision of the day: getting out of bed at seven.

“I didn’t need another reminder. I needed something outside my own half-awake willpower.”

Even after a full night’s sleep, I could still dismiss an alarm and stay in bed. So my brother and I began building Commit: an alarm that makes me walk to a physical Point before it ends. The funny part is that laziness works both ways—once the Point is far enough away, going back becomes the harder option. One day, the same principle may help with daytime screen use too.
